Featuring Samanthe Doyle
Samantha Doyle did Money & You® in February 2009 just after her 20th birthday.
She attended the program because her Dad booked her in along with himself.
"I had no idea why I was there" Sammy says laughing. "When I think about it though I was at a stage in my life where I didn't know what I was doing. I hated uni and was skipping classes and exams. And it was Dad's last ditch attempt to get me excited about something...
I loved it, from the Thursday night game through.(Even though I initially felt a bit intimidated by Dom.) I thought it was going to be one of those programs where you have to get up and speak in front of heaps of people. When I realised it wasn't like that at all, I started to feel safe and really enjoy myself. I loved Saturday night - the games were just be best way to learn and I learned so much about myself - including how I was treating my friends and family - which on reflection - wasn't very nice... I was just like a lot of my Gen Y friends, went to uni because it seemed like the next step. You know they're studying medicine or law and absolutely hating it - they're just lost and don't know their purpose - like I was...
Since Money & You® I've changed a lot! It seemed pointless continuing full time uni so I changed to part time and I was working in a web development company which I'm now general manager of. I had no idea about sales and marketing but just decided to jump in and learn - that's another thing I got from Money & You®... So I've been doing that for a year, and now I've set up my own business in branding and logos.
Another thing that's happened is I've taken control of my money. I was $7000 in debt - a lot for a student - when I did M&Y and since then I've paid it off and done 2 overseas trips... and still have cash in the bank. I'm really proud of that...
I Love Money & You® and as you can see from my walls (which are covered in M&Y flip charts) I just printed the flip charts all out and have them there so I can see them every day.
What I want now is as many Gen Y's as possible to do M&Y... and I'm working with my boyfriend James (who hasn't even done the program yet!) to get as many of my age group along as we can... We've even set up Apprentice Entrepreneurs and asked Jane and Stan if we could have a special student price - which they agreed to. They can even pay it off - which makes it heaps easier if their students...
